Finding a LawyerFinding a lawyer for your case can sometimes be difficult, especially if the case is unique or difficult. Here are some hints for finding a lawyer to help you.You can ask friends which lawyer they dealt with if they have a similar type of case to yours. You can look at the yellow pages in the phone book under "lawyers". You can call a firm and ask if they have someone who deals with your type of case. You can ask a lawyer who does not handle your type of case for a referral. You can call the Lawyer Referral Service. Lawyer Referral ServiceThe Lawyer Referral Service is a project of Community Legal Information Association of PEI, Inc. in co-operation with The Law Society of Prince Edward Island.If you think you might have a legal problem, but aren't sure, or if you need legal advice but don't know where to look, or if you need a lawyer, but don't know one, the Lawyer Referral Service can help you. The Lawyer Referral Service is available to anyone. It is designed to encourage you to seek legal advice early, before your problems become complicated and expensive. It takes the worry out of looking for a lawyer. You can call the Lawyer Referral Service at 1-800-240-9798 or 902-892-0853 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday to Thursday. Explain briefly the type of problem you have. The service will give you the name of a lawyer. You arrange an appointment with the lawyer and tell him or her that the Lawyer Referral Service referred you. The lawyer will give you an interview of up to 45 minutes at a nominal charge of $25.00 plus P.S.T and G.S.T.. The lawyer will tell you whether he/she thinks you have a legal problem, what is involved, and how long it should take to solve the problem, and about how much it will cost. |
